Spartans wary of potential banana slip against the Ship in Football Nation cup

Posted on Friday, September 4th, 2015

There’s a different competition but no change of focus for Spartans Manager Dougie Samuel this week as his side prepare to take on Burntisland Shipyard in the delayed Round 1 tie of the Football Nation Qualifying Cup.

The sides were due to meet last month however our visitors were on William Hill Scottish Cup duty where they fell to St Cuthbert Wanderers in the Preliminary Round.

Spartans and Shippy are no strangers to meeting in Cups, having done so twice last year, with the Ainslie Park men running out victors on both occasions.   After a convincing 5-0 win over Kelso United, who have today (Friday 04th) announced of their intention to withdraw from the EOS League and merge with Kelso Thistle to play in the Border Amateur League, the Fifers will be looking to use this as a springboard to offer the chance of a cup upset come 4.45pm on Saturday.

For the home side, the newly sponsored Football Nation Qualifying Cup offers a change of scenery from the Lowland League campaign where, like the visitors, they enjoyed a similar scoreline in their last outing, with a resurgent Spartans defeating Edinburgh University to move them up to 3rd place in the table.

The Football Nation Qualifying Cup brings together EOSFA member clubs from the East of Scotland Football League and the Scottish Lowland Football League.

Kick-off is at 3pm.  Admission £5 Adults, £3 Concessions, Under 16s FREE! Season Tickets are available on the gate priced £50 adults, £25 Concessions with all Under 16s qualifying for a free ticket.
