Spartans top table after scoring seven at KelsoSpartans East of Scotland scored seven goals for the second time in just seven days as Colin Tomassi’s side finished top of Qualifying Group C after an emphatic 1-7 win on the road at Kelso. The new look Ainslie Park side maintained their 100% record in a game that saw no fewer than 6 players get their name on the Spartans score-sheet. Andy Howat got his side off to a great start, opening the scoring within the first five minutes at a sunny Woodside Park. It was Howat at the double shortly after, with the striker adding to her earlier goal to make it three in as many games. Blair Atkinson, another product of last season’s successful Under 20s side, continued his impressive start to the season making it 3-0, before Sean Stewart set up Alex Imlah who slotted home to put further light between the teams. Stewart turned from provider to finisher as Spartans raced to an unassailable 5-0 advantage in mellifluous fashion. Then, shortly before the interval, new recruit Ger Rossi opened up his Spartans account, despite the best attentions of Chris Anderson looking to claim the goal. Half Time: Kelso United 0-6 Spartans EOS A shell-shocked Kelso came out for the second half that was unlikely to match the opening stanza and despite a rally of sorts from the Borders men, their solitary strike was to be the only blot on the copybook of stand-in keeper Andrew Livingstone who stepped up from the Saturday Amateurs following Ross Gilpin’s midweek dismissal at Stirling. The best however was saved til last, when Anderson finally got himself in on the action after fine link-up play with Rossi to restore the six goal advantage.
