Sammy’s Spartans set for Sunday’s season opener against StirlingSpartans kick off their Ferrari Packaging sponsored Lowland League campaign on Sunday when they travel to Stirling to take on Shelley Kerr’s University side. With the match put back 24 hours due to Forthbank landlords Stirling Albion in cup action on Saturday, Dougie Samuel’s side go into game on the back of an impressive victory last weekend against their Blyth namesakes to lift the Ronnie Swan Challenge Cup. The inaugural Lowland League champions will be looking to wrestle the title back from current holders Edinburgh City and a win on the road will give Samuel’s men a boost as they begin a marathon eight game spell throughout the month of August. The Students, coached by Shelley Kerr, herself no stranger to Ainslie Park after a spell with the Women’s side as a Player & Manger, will be keen to build on last season’s impressive form both in league and University competition. With the previous Lowland League meetings between the sides being tight affairs, expect yet another close encounter as both teams set out to get their campaigns off to a winning start. The match at Forthbank Stadium kicks-off at 3pm. Admission: Adults £5, Concessions £3. |
