Weekend offers great Hopper-tunity to showcase Lowland League to travelling fans

Posted on Wednesday, March 18th, 2015

Spartans head to Selkirk’s Yarrow Park on Saturday in what will be a first for the Scottish Sun Lowland League with the arrival of the Groundhoppers.

Kicking-off at 3.30pm, the fixture will be the second of three games played that day bolstered by some 250 fans travelling from as far and wide as Cardiff, London and Birmingham courtesy of Groundhop UK.

The group of football hungry fans will take in seven games over three days on their adventure across the border.

In what is hoped to be a welcome financial boost for the Clubs and ensures fans have a weekend to remember whilst visiting new grounds across Scotland, the seven game session begins on Friday night at K Park as East Kilbride take on Whitehill Welfare (7.45pm).

On Saturday, Vale of Leithen play Preston Athletic at Victoria Park (noon) before the band of footballing aficionados visit Yarrow Park for our head to head with Selkirk at 3.30pm.

Netherdale is the last stop as Gala Fairydean Rovers host Stirling University (7pm). Sunday sees a day in the South West, with a noon start at Islecroft Stadium for Dalbeattie Star v Edinburgh City and the weekend rounds off at the Meadow Park where Threave Rovers entertain Edinburgh University (3pm).

Our hosts are looking forward to welcoming the Spartan Army and the Hoppers and have advised us that they will have old programmes, merchandise and pin badges on sale along with some tasty options for the peckish punters including chicken curry, macaroni & cheese, pies and for the sweet toothed supporters – home baking!  The bar will also be open too.
