Alex’s army on guard against Coldstream in semi final showdownAlex Cunningham’s East of Scotland side are just one game away from a shot at silverware when they entertain Coldstream FC in the Semi-Final of the League Cup at Ainslie Park this Saturday.Cunningham’s side have yet to record a victory over the Streamer’s this season, having drawn 1-1 at home before losing 2-1 at Home Park in January, allowing the Borders men to record their first home league win for 11 months – frustratingly also against Spartans. For the second time this season, the sides get set to lock horns just days after a change at the top for Coldstream. Neil Oliver resigning days the draw in October whilst Stephen Gibbard parted company last week. With Allan Wilson at the helm, Spartans can expect another tough challenge if they are to progress to play either Leith Athletic or Easthouses Lily in the Final. Spartans will be looking to build on last week’s King Cup success against Ormiston and progress in another cup tournament this season. It’s a return between the Spartans sticks for Ross Gilpin after his loan spell at Preston Athletic. With Murray Jackson out on loan until the end of the season with Musselburgh Juniors, ‘Gilps’ brings a wealth of experience to the side along with recent signing Barry Milven. Milven, who arrived from Lowland League outfit Selkirk, looks set to feature in Cunningham’s squad after recovering from a knock sustained at Easthouses. Kyle Boggie and Kyle Hogg are back in contention for a starting berth having both missed last week’s game against Ormiston. With the Lowland League side on the road at Stirling, stay at home fans are urged to head along to Ainslie Park for 3pm and cheer the lads on in the search for silverware. |
