Spartans Hope to Find Form at PrestonSpartans return to Lowland League action tonight for the first time since the 2-1 win over Gretna 2008 on the 31st of January, with a tricky tie away to Preston Athletic. Since that win Dougie Samuel’s side have faced two tough encounters against Berwick Rangers as well as defeats against Edinburgh City and Vale of Leithen in the Image Printers and South Challenge Cups. With just a handful of games left in the Lowland League and while the title out of reach for this year, Manager Dougie Samuel is hoping for a big push and return to form in the final few months of the season. “We are looking forward to the challenge of setting out to make amends for our loss to Preston Athletic at the start of December. Our short term goal is to pick up as many points as possible over our remaining 7 league games and aim to overtake the sides currently above us in the league.” Preston Athletic will be buoyed by the fact they left Ainslie Park with three points earlier in the season as they continue to battle against relegation. The East Lothian side have a two point advantage over rock bottom Threave Rovers, but the Castle Douglas side have a game in hand. Keith McLeod is unavailable for this evening’s game while Kevin Swain and Jack Beacher remain doubtful. Captain Kevin Sivewright and Craig Stevenson both played a full 90 minutes for the East of Scotland side on Saturday however and could feature. Kick off is at 7.45pm at PennyPitt. |
