League Cup: Spartans out to make it three out of three against BSC

Posted on Friday, December 26th, 2014

Spartans look to end 2014 by making it a hat-trick of victories in the Scottish Sun + Lowland League Cup group stages when they take on BSC Glasgow at Ainslie Park.

Whilst Spartans get set to play their third game of the cup campaign, visitors BSC Glasgow head to Ainslie Park for the first time having yet to kick a ball in the tournament so far.

Iain King’s side have fallen foul of the winter weather forcing no fewer than five out of their last six games to be postponed, four of these at their Lochburn Park ground.

Scotland’s newest senior side’s last victory on the road was in the Capital on Lowland League duty when they brushed aside Edinburgh University at Peffermill, however Dougie Samuel’s Spartans will be looking to ensure the home of Hogmanay is no happy hunting ground for all the Kingy’s men.

Last week’s win at Whitehill has all but secured a Quarter Final place for Spartans however there will be no room for complacency against a BSC side who have strengthened their squad since the teams met back in September, a game Spartans won 1-4 courtesy of goals from Mikey Bruce, Kevin Motion x2 and Willie Bremner.

It was Bremner who secured the points at Rosewell last week and the striker is looking forward to getting back to playing on the carpet-like Ainslie Park surface.  “We’ll give BSC a game and will be playing to secure the full nine points in the campaign.  Being at home will allow us the environment to play our brand of fast flowing football in front of our own fans.”

Samuel’s squad rotation policy has paid dividends during the tournament so far and whilst those on the treatment table continue their road to recovery, it will allow others to step up to the plate and make an impression ahead of what promises to be a tough 2015.

There’s no place however for the suspended Iain Thomson however Ally Mackinnon came through unscathed in a midweek friendly and is set to feature.   Finally, Michael Herd had his first fitness session on Tuesday as he looks to accelerate his recovery from injury.

The game kicks off at 3pm.  Admission £5, Concessions £3 and Under 15s go FREE!
