League Cup Welfare win is top of Cennerazzo’s Christmas listSaturday’s Sun + Lowland League League Cup has all the hallmarks of a Christmas cracker on the cards as Spartans head to Rosewell to take on old adversaries Whitehill Welfare.Errol Douglas and Jack Beesley earned Spartans a 2-1 win over high flyers Edinburgh City at Ainslie Park last weekend in the opening round of the group stages and Defender Gary Cennerazzo is keen to build on his side’s success. The Spartan Army favourite said, “It was a great win for us against one of our biggest rivals and it’s always good to start the competition well. Hopefully we can make it 2 out of 2 against another strong opponent in what will be a very tough game. We go there with confidence though and hope we can come away with three points and remain undefeated in the group.” Games between the two sides are always one of the most exciting in the calendar and the last meeting between Sammy & Mickey’s men ended in a hard-fought 2-2 draw at a blustery (when is it never, we hear you say!) Ferguson Park when Keith McLeod’s strike earned Spartans a precious point on the road. Cennerazzo expects more of the same this time. “It will always be a battle and both teams thrive on that. I think a balance of strong attack and defence is key to get a positive result and if we play to our strengths once again on Saturday, then there’s no reason why we can’t win.” Spartans boss Dougie Samuel is set once again to ensure players are offered valuable game time during the League Cup campaign. The squad rotation plan, says Cennerazzo, is key to the side’s success. “It’s very important and whoever comes in is more than capable of doing the job. The depth and talent of the squad is excellent and its key to always keep things fresh in order to make sure we go into the games giving 100% to win.” The Sun + Lowland League Cup tie kicks-off at 2pm. Admission at Rosewell: Adults £5, Concessions £3 and the Match Programme is a decent read too.
