Star turn required by Samuel’s Spartans to down Dalbeattie

If you are looking for goals in the Scottish Sun Lowland League this weekend, then all roads lead to Kirkcudbrightshire where Spartans take on Dalbeattie Star.

Fourteen goals were scored in last week’s games involving the two sides with Spartans recording an emphatic 5-1 Scottish Cup win at East Kilbride to set up a 3rd Round clash at home against Clyde.

Undefeated in eight games, Spartans will be looking to keep the pressure on early league leaders Edinburgh City by returning back up the M74 with three vital match points.

When the sides met at Isleworth Stadium last time out, there were no fewer than four goals and five minutes of madness at the end of an epic encounter to give the fans value for money and plenty to talk about on their way home.

Spartans Manager Dougie Samuel is looking forward to locking horns against a Star side that drew 4-4 on the road at BSC Glasgow last weekend.

Samuel said, “We go into Saturday’s game knowing that there is very little (if any) margin for error. Both league games vs. Dalbeattie Star ended in a share of the points last year, meaning we know it’s one of the toughest league games we face all season. ‘Skin’ will have his side well organised and desperate to kick-start their own league campaign.

“With both teams scoring lots of goals in recent weeks, I’m expecting another high scoring affair. With no league game after this one for us until 8th November at the earliest, it’s important we do all that we can to take all 3 points. On the player front Mikey Bruce and Jack Beacher remain on the sidelines due to recent injuries, along with long term injury victims Mikey Herd and Robbie Ross.”

The game kicks-off at 3pm.
