Bouncebackability Helps Beat BSC

Posted on Saturday, September 27th, 2014

A spirited comeback from Spartans and an excellent 2nd half performance helped secure a 4-1 win away to BSC Glasgow and three vital points in the Lowland League.

With a number of players still out injured it was once again a changed Spartans squad which took to the field. With a number of absentees, East of Scotland Assistant Manager Darren Cameron took his place in the dugout while Brad Raiker and Andy Mair took places on the bench. Club Chairman Craig Graham also chipped in as he put his gloves on to help warm up Kevin Swain before the game.

We started the game well and Willie Bremner raced into the box following a throw in, only to see his strike saved at the near post. It was BSC who took the lead in the 9th minute following a flowing counter attack which ended with Chris MacDougall tapping the ball into the net from just 4 yards out.

For a few minutes after the goal, BSC played with confidence as they push forward looking to extend their lead. Spartans got back into the game however in the 26th minute. A corner was only half cleared and a 2nd cross into the box found Danny O’Donnell at the back post. His strike towards goal seemed to trundle towards the goal in slow motion, before bouncing off the post and up into the path of Mikey Bruce who headed it into the net.

Just moments later and following some neat work again on the right wing, Willie Bremner’s cross into the centre of the box found the head of Kevin Motion. The ball ricocheted off a BSC defender and into the back of the net.

Ally MacKinnon had a great chance to put us further ahead just before half time. He raced onto a great through ball from John Grant, raced with the ball at his feet to the 6 yard line, however his blasted shot went well wide of the far post, eventually going out for a throw in!

Spartans started the 2nd half with intent and got the important third goal in the 58th minute. John Grant played a neat pass to Keith McLeod, who turned in the box and fired a shot towards goal. BSC keeper Stewart managed to parry the ball however it fell into the path of Kevin Motion to blasts it first time into the far corner.

Willie Bremner then put the icing on the cake with a superb strike in the 66th minute. The attacking midfielder picked the ball up about 30 yards out, stepped forward and rifle and unstoppable shot into the top corner of the net.

As the game progressed Dougie Samuel made a couple of chances including the introduction of Brad Raiker for his 2nd appearance in the Lowland League and gave a Lowland League debut to exciting young fullback Andy Mair.

Malt & Hops Man of the Match: Kevin Motion – Another battling performance from Kevin who has been on great form. Another two goals to add to his tally as well.
