Over the Bridge to Burntisland

Posted on Friday, September 12th, 2014

Spartans take a break from Lowland League action tomorrow as we travel to Fife to play Burntisland Shipyard in the 2nd round of the Image Printers Cup.

The match, which was re-arranged from earlier this season due to Burntisland’s participation in the William Hill Scottish Cup, is the first East of Scotland domestic cup competition of the season. This is the first time we’ve travelled to face Burntisland for a number of years as the Spartan army cross the Forth for the first time since our trip to Culter in 2011.

Michael Herd and Robbie Ross remain out long term, Alan Brown is unavailable while Ally MacKinnon, Willie Bremner and Keith McLeod all face late fitness tests after picking up knocks in last weekend’s draw with Whitehill Welfare.  Spartans Manager Dougie Samuel will hope to give returning midfielder Iain Thomson some game time while Jack Beacher also continues to gain match sharpness with each passing week.

The game kicks off at 2.30pm at the Recreation Ground in Burntisland. The game could go to extra time and penalties if required. It’s perhaps worth noting too that the Forth Road Bridge is closed tomorrow from 10pm until 10.30pm for any Spartan fan looking to make a day of it in the Kingdom of Fife.
