Sanquhar Away! Spartans set sail for Nithsdale

Posted on Friday, March 14th, 2014

Spartans head to Sanquhar to take on Nithsdale Wanderers on South Challenge Cup quarter final duty as the search for silverware continues.

Originally founded in 1897, Saturday’s hosts were resurrected in 2001 when they successfully applied for membership of the South of Scotland league after 37 years out of the game.

Our hosts currently sit 4th in the South of Scotland league, with Nithsdale hitman Roman Soltys, one to watch, having scored 29 times so far this season.

Spartans Manager Dougie Samuel is looking forward to the trip to Lorimer Park, despite travelling with a somewhat depleted squad.

“On Saturday we face a fresh challenge.  We go up against a South of Scotland side Nithsdale Wanderers for a place in the last 4 of the South Challenge Cup (the biggest local cup we play for).

“After knocking out the holders Whitehill earlier in the competition, we are desperate to replace their name on the trophy. As has been the case all season, we have several players unavailable tomorrow, in total we have seven of our 1st team players missing.

“In month 10, it’s great to be playing a team we’ve not faced so far this season, it’s a fresh challenge that can’t come quick enough for everyone connected with the 1st team squad”.

There are a very limited number of seats still available on the bus to Sanqhuar this weekend. Leaving the Academy at 11.15am there will be a single stop at Fairmilehead at 11.35am. To book your place on the bus please contact Cameron Hobbs on 07962 353 645. Seats will be allocated on a first come first served basis.
