Spartans aim to be quick on the draw in battle for Image rights

It’s a welcome break from the intensity of Lowland League duty tomorrow when the Seniors take on Gretna in the Image Printers Cup at Ainslie Park.

Spartans look to build on a great week for the Club that has seen the Springboks grace the Academy pitch ahead of their game v Scotland on Sunday and legend Keith McLeod collecting the inaugural Lowland League Player of the Month Award for his rich vein of form lately.

After an undefeated stretch of five games, including 3 consecutive clean sheets for Scott Bennett, Spartans know that Gretna will be keen to avenge their 3-0 defeat at home against Dougie Samuel’s men earlier in the season.

Spartans see Keith Sivewright and Robbie Ross on the treatment table with ankle knocks, whilst Ali Mackinnon continues to recover from the head knock received at Vale of Leithen.  Making a case again for selection this weekend are the trio of Jack Blaikie, Danny Main and it’s a welcome back from his loan spell at Peebles Rovers to Chris Anderson.

Gretna head to the Capital with an impressive record having only lost once on the road in the Lowland League, an opening day 2-0 reversal at Vale of Leithen.

The romance of the cup brings a Club from a town synonymous with all things loved up to Ainslie Park, but the honeymoon will be over for one of the teams before its begun come 4.45 on Saturday.

Will it be Kenny Brown’s men, the current holders of the trophy, or can Sammy’s Spartans progress in a competition that saw the home side bow out in the Semi-Final last season against Stirling Uni.

The game kicks off at 3pm. Admission £5 Adults, £3 Concessions whilst we continue to promote the game in North Edinburgh with FREE entry for U/12’s.
