Scottish Cup derby sees Spartans look to take the Main Road to HampdenSpartans travel across the City for a derby against Edinburgh Uni at Peffermill on Saturday in the 1st round of the William Hill Scottish Cup.The long and winding Road to Hampden begins with Spartans Manager Dougie Samuel heading back to his old stomping ground where he spent 9 years at the helm. Spartans have grabbed the headlines and earned the people’s plaudits over the past decade in the Cup with some fantastic ties including a dramatic 0-0 draw at City Park v St Mirren when Johnny Seeley was inches away from fame in front of just under 3,500 fans. Two players from that day, Keith McLeod and Donal Henretty, are both in contention for a spot in the line-up on Saturday against the Students. Edinburgh Uni, plying their trade in the East of Scotland League, will be out to cause an opening round shock against Lowland League opposition however former Uni star Danny Main is keen to avoid a potential opening round banana skin, “It’s fantastic to be going back to Peffermill so soon. There will be a lot of close friends playing on the other side and watching – it’s something I’m really looking forward to. Main, who made the move across town in the summer, is keen to play down any ‘favourites’ tag ahead of the 1st round tie, “They will be really motivated to do well, we know that – but so are we. The lads are determined to spark another great cup run for this Club. There will be 100% focus on our side and we certainly won’t be taking anything for granted.” Entry to the game, at the Edinburgh University Sports Union over at Peffermill, is £5 Adults, £3 concessions. Kick-Off is at 3pm. If the game finishes level, a replay will take place on Saturday 21st September at Ainslie Park, with a 3pm Kick-Off.
