Robbie ready for City return in Lowland League opener

The curtain is set to be raised on the inaugural Lowland League as Spartans head to Meadowbank tomorrow (Saturday) to take on Edinburgh City in the season opener.

After a busy pre-season schedule, playing no fewer than 7 games in a 3 week period, Spartans go into the game having had the chance to give game time to the seven new players who joined the club during the summer.

One player looking forward to kicking off the campaign at the Commonwealth Stadium is striker Robbie Ross.

The 25 year old moved from City to the Academy in the close season and he is relishing a warm reception – both on and off the pitch.

“I’m sure the response from the crowd will be different than what I’m used to playing at Meadowbank but I’m really looking forward to it.  I’ve got a lot of friends who are still at City and it’s quite nice to get this game out the way so early on in the season”

The striker, who netted twice in his competitive debut against Threave Rovers in the Ramsdens Cup, laughed as he told of some gentle pre-match teasing he’s been receiving from his old changing room chums.

“I’ve been getting some banter from the guys by text & twitter over the last couple of weeks so I’m sure I’ll be getting a few kicks, but it’s all part and parcel of the game really and I’m delighted to be heading back with the Spartans lads on Saturday”

The match kicks off at 3pm.  Admission £5 / £3.  Your support is welcome.
