Fantastic Five

The players returned to training this week in preparation for the season which starts with a home friendly against Forfar on Tuesday 9th July before the first competitive match of the season at home to Threave Rovers in the Ramsdens Cup Preliminary Round 1st Leg on Saturday 13th July.

Along with the existing players who have signed up again for the season ahead, a number of new signings were officially announced. The 5 players, all moving from teams who were in the East of Scotland Premier Division last season, provide additional quality in a number of positions on the park.

Two Scottish University Cap players, Danny Main and Jack Beacher have moved from Dougie Samuel’s former side Edinburgh University. Danny is a towering defender and was Captain of the Uni side. He can play at centre half or left back. Jack Beacher is a winger/striker and another regular from Dougie’s former side. Originally from Hong Kong he adds strength and pace to the attacking line.

Also making the move to Ainsie Park is Jack Blaikie. Having played pro youth for Livingston and East Fife, Jack, a left back or centre half, joins from Vale of Leithen.

Alan ‘Hovis’ Brown has followed in a long line of players to move to Spartans from Whitehill Welfare. A key member of the Whitehill squad last season, the midfielder or full back also has experience within the Juniors having played for both Newtongrange Star and Linlithgow Rose.

Striker Robbie Ross completes the confirmed new signings as he makes a move from Edinburgh City. Robbie has scored a hugely impressive number of goals in the East of Scotland League for the Meadowbank side. His performances for the Lilywhites earned him a move to the SFL with Arbroath. He moved back to Edinburgh City a few season ago and continued where he left off, regularly scoring vital goals for City.
