Spartans in the Lowland League

Posted on Tuesday, June 18th, 2013

The Scottish Football Association yesterday confirmed that Spartans were one of the teams selected to make up the new Lowland League, part of the new, much anticipated pyramid system for Scotland.

Andy Nixon, Spartans Director said:
“Spartans are delighted and proud to be part of the first ever Lowland League and believe that its formation will have a major positive impact on Scottish football.

The news marks the latest and perhaps largest milestone in the clubs goal of playing in a national pyramid system. A lot of work has gone in to make this happen and we would like to thank the working group, the SFA and the SPL and SFL clubs who have voted through the changes which has allowed this dream to become a reality.

Manager Dougie Samuel has already started building his squad for the season ahead and we look forward to an exciting, close fought campaign. The season begins in earnest in under 4 weeks when we host our first Ramsdens Cup play-off against Threave. We’ve also made a decision as a club to keep our season ticket prices the same as last season and these are on sale now.”

Also joining the league are: Dalbeattie Star, East Kilbride, Edinburgh City, Gala Fairydean, Gretna, Preston Athletic, Selkirk, Stirling University, Threave Rovers, Vale of Leithen & Whitehill Welfare.

The Lowland League will kick off this August.
