The end of a busy week in Scottish Football

Posted on Sunday, June 16th, 2013

Rather a big week for Scottish football. Scotland’s win in Croatia followed by agreement on the SPL/SFL reconstruction and then Lowland League confirmed for next season. Stewart Regan and Campbell Ogilvie with a number of their SFA colleagues were at the Academy on Wednesday night for the Scotland vs Wales U17 Women’s game, it was great to see so many smiling faces.

It’s fantastic for Spartans and all the teams at our level that the Lowland League will start next season. Promotion to the SNFL will be a tortuous process but at least there is a chance! We’ll know the new teams by Monday and importantly the new league is part of the Professional Game Board rather than the Non Professional Game Board. Well done to everyone who worked hard on the Lowland League Working group – Colin and Richard from the SOS league with Andy, Tom and Dougie from our league with input from key guys at the SFA and the SJFA as we finalised the plans.

As a result of the changes we will be pulling our second team out of the Juniors and they will play in the East of Scotland League. Our 19s will also be strong this season so the three teams will work closely together which was much more difficult with one team in the East Junior League.

July will be a really exciting month. After finishing on 1st June with our King Cup win the players come back on 2nd July. Dougie has given them a programme to stay reasonably fit and no wonder. In a frantic three weeks we have two Ramsdens cup games against Threave Rovers and friendlies against Forfar Athletic, Hibs U20’s and Raith Rovers.

Our full squad will be announced over the next week and we’re delighted with how it is shaping up.
