Manson Moves On

Posted on Wednesday, June 5th, 2013

My decision to move on to pastures new was an extremely difficult one as I have had a great 5 years with Spartans. However, I felt I needed a fresh challenge at this stage of my career. I have won everything there is to win at EOS level and I am looking forward to playing in the Super League next season.

I was close to leaving last season but the gaffer persuaded me to stay on and I am glad I did that and help the club through this transitional period. The first team are in a strong position on the field with some good young players at the club with lots of potential. The youth teams are also strong, with the 17’s winning the Scottish Cup this year, and I am sure it won’t be long until we are seeing some of these skilled youngsters make the breakthrough to the first team.

Throughout my time at Spartans there has been a lot of change, from playing at City Park and now our new stadium at Ainslie Park. The club is going in the right direction on and off the park. I am sure it won’t be long before Spartans are in the SFL, where they should be.

I would like to thank the current coaching team for this season, the gaffer, Zorro, Gary Smith, Cairnsy and also the backroom staff, Craigy Samuel, the doc and last but certainly not least, Ralph who has been great all season. I would also like to thank the former coaching team of Mickey, Sam, Mike Irving, Eric and Dougie for the 4 seasons before this.

Craig, Brycey, Phil and Andy have always been great with me and would like to thank them for their support over the years. I would also like to thank the small but loyal fans we have, they are always on top form and it has been great to speak with them after games and also on Twitter! It would be wrong to go on without thanking the academy staff who work extremely hard behind the scenes.

It has been a great pleasure and honour to captain this special club and I was delighted to be able to lift the King Cup last Saturday. It was a fitting way to end my time at Spartans on a high and I would like to thank the players for their efforts this season. I am extremely grateful to have played with not only some great players over the years but also some great guys and I have made a lot of friends during the last 5 years.

I wish everyone at the club all the best for the future and I am sure the drive within the club will continue to bring success.
