Whitehill go three points clear with win

Whitehill Welfare go three points clear at the top of the Premier Division following today’s 2-0 victory at home to Spartans.

The sides started the day on the same points and goal difference however the convincing victory gives the Rosewell side a vital lead with just two games remaining.

Following a blustery opening thirty minutes where both sets of players struggled to control the ball in the swirling winds, it was Whitehill who pounced on a defensive mistake to open the scoring. There was confusion at the back for Spartans as some of the players thought the ball had gone out of play however it was played to Alan Brown who was able to knock the ball into an unguard net.

Whitehill doubled their advantage just two minutes later as Dayne Robertson collected the ball on the edge of the box and slotted his shot beyond Ross Gilpin.

Robbie Manson had a chance to pull a goal back just after the break, however he couldn’t quite get his foot to the ball just a few yards out and it was cleared for a corner.

Spartans brought on three attacking subs as the game went on however struggled to create any goal scoring chances and Whitehill held on for the win.

Malt & Hops Man of the Match: Johnny Seeley – not really any stand out performances but Seeley did a good job at the back today.

Team: Gilpin, O’Donnell, Cennerazzo, Seeley, MacKinnon, Manson, Bremner, Whatley (Ferguson), Henretty, McLeod (Martin), Motion (Beesley) Unused: Sivewright, Trialist
