Second Semi SuccessSpartans secured their place in another cup final tonight with a solid 2-0 victory at Stirling University. The opening few minutes were very even with both sides looking to attack with pace however neither side were able to create any clear scoring chances. It took a touch of fortune for the opener in the 21st minute. A Kevin Motion free kick from the left wing caused confusion in the Stirling Uni defence and as the ball got lost in sun, defender Jason Atkins headed the it up, over the keeper and into his own net! Spartans should have been several goals in front by half time however the Stirling Uni keeper was in fine form, keeping out a Willie Bremner header then making a sensational double save from a corner. Stirling started the second half stronger however were held at bay by the solid Spartans defence. The lead was eventually doubled in the 71st minute. Again the goal came from a Kevin Motion free kick from the left wing however this time it was Spartans defender Ally MacKinnon who got his head onto the ball at the back post and powered the ball into the net. Spartans will now face fellow Capital rivals Edinburgh City in the League Cup Final on Saturday 25th May. Malt & Hops Man of the Match: Kevin Motion – a superb hard working performance from Kev whose free kicks were key to the victory.
