5 Star Performance puts us throughSpartans secured their place in another semi-final with a convincing 5-1 victory over Tynecastle at Ainslie Park.Keith McLeod and John Grant missed out through suspension however keeper Chris Flockhart passed a late fitness test and took his place in the goal. John Ferguson was first to have a strike at goal but his strike was easily held. At the other end Flockhart had to look sharp to save a freekick from John Williams on the edge of the box. Spartans took the lead in the 13th minute. Kevin Motion’s corner fell to Mark Whatley on the edge of the box. His strike bounced off Robbie Manson who was left with an open goal and an easy finish. Willie Bremner doubled the lead in the 20th minute when he raced onto a great through ball by Donal Henretty, rounded the keeper and rolled the ball into the net. We had several chances to extend the lead further however Tynecastle got themselves back into the game in the 38th minute when Daryl Burdett headed into the net from a corner kick. Tynecastle’s task was made harder when Nyancho Manneh was shown a straight red card in the 62nd minute when he slapped Kevin Motion after the two had tussled on the ground. That card was Tynecastle’s fifth against us this season in three games! Mark Whatley looked certain to add a fifth in the 70th minute. He broke free with the ball at his feet however saw his shot saved. Danny O’Donnell got onto the rebound and fed it back to Whatley but he somehow managed to his the post with the goal wide open in front of him. It took until the 75th minute for us to extend the lead. A neat move on the left wing saw Gary Cennerazzo race into the box and power his shot past Banaszynski in the Tynecastle goal. In the 78th minute, sub Jack Beesley’s cross into the box was dropped by the Tynecastle keeper. The ball fell to the feet of Donal Henretty and he tapped it into the net. The final goal of the game came in the 85th minute. Willie Bremner broke free on the left wing and drew the goalkeeper out before squaring the ball to sub Andy Martin who poked the ball home from a few yards out. Malt & Hops Man of the Match: Gary Cennerazzo – Gary wins it for the second week in a row following a hard working performance from left back and a cracking goal too.
