Friendly win over young Hearts team

Posted on Tuesday, January 22nd, 2013

We secured a solid 3-2 victory over a young Hearts U20 side tonight at Ainslie Park.

The returning Kevin Motion started following his loan move from Forfar yesterday while fellow new signing John Ferguson started on the bench.

Hearts started well and took the lead after just six minute when Gary Oliver curled the ball home from about 10 yards out.

We equalised in the 10th minute. The hard working Mark Whatley battled for a ball on the right wing, looked up and fired a long diagonal pass to Keith McLeod who controlled it well, stepped forward into the box and slotted the ball into the net.

The game was mostly battled in midfield with neither side having many clear goal scoring chances. Just when it looked like the teams would go in a level at half time a slack pass back to Spartan’s keeper Ross Gilpin allowed Hearts to get the ball and Gary Oliver slotted the ball into an empty net for his second.

We started the second half well and deservedly got back on level terms in the 58th minute when sub John Ferguson met a cross at the back post to fire home his first goal for the club.

Jack Beesley then scored the winning goal in superb fashion in the 77th minute with a wonderful free kick from 30yards out which flew into the top of the net over the stretched arms of the Hearts keeper.

Team: Gilpin (Flockhart), Grant, Cennerazzo, Sivewright, O’Donnell (MacCuish), Whatley (Wringe), Beesley, Manson, Bremner (Henretty), McLeod (Ferguson), Motion
