Injury time own goal gives win to students

Posted on Saturday, December 22nd, 2012

An injury time own goal from Neil MacCuish gave Stirling university all three points in a thrilling game at Ainslie Park.

We also had a huge number of items handed in as part of our ‘donate at the gate’ incentive which saw a good crowd of over 260 at the game.

We started well in an end to end first twenty minutes with both sides playing flowing, attacking football. It was Stirling however who opened the scoring in the 25th minute. Winger Liam Corr collected the ball on the wing, move inside to the edge of the box and curl a wonderful strike past Chris Flockhart.

We started to push forward and Jack Beesley and Chris Anderson both had good chances to score, before great link up play between Gary Cennerazzo and Willie Bremner on the edge of the box helped us draw level in the 36th minute.

Cennerazzo fed the ball to Bremner on the edge of the box, who back heeled it, allowing Cennerazzo to run onto it, take it past a Stirling defender then slot the ball home.

The rain started during half time and we seemed to struggle to keep control of the ball as it skipped around on the wet surface. The Uni had several chances however our defence stood strong and just as it looked like the game was going to end as a draw, the winning goal came.

A cross from the left wing looked to be heading through to Chris Flockhart, however Neil MacCuish attempted to clear it and unfortunately the ball slipped off his boot and went into the far corner.
