Academy pitch shortlisted for Institute of Groundsmans Award

Posted on Sunday, November 11th, 2012

We have been shortlisted as one of two to win the Best Maintained Artificial pitch in the UK by the Institute of Groundsmans (IOG) Award for 2012.  The winner will be announced at the Gala IOG dinner on 6th December in York.

The awards are coveted throughout UK sport with the Best Groundsman of the Year a highly sought after and highly publicised award.  Alongside us in the awards is the groundmen for Trent Bridge and Lords who are after the cricket award, Aston Villa and Stoke City who are against each other for the best football pitch with Etihad and Twickenham fighting it out for best venue.

Fantastic credit to Colin Hutchison who with support from Danny and Conor have worked exceptionally hard on our new pitch despite some highly variable weather and a nightly visit from some troublesome foxes.  All Blacks coach Steve Hansen described the pitch yesterday as they trained on it as “the best synthetic surface I have seen across the world”.
