From the All Blacks to the LilywhitesThe New Zealand All Blacks used the main pitch at Ainslie Park this afternoon in their final training session before their game against Scotland tomorrow. It meant there was a good crowd from early on and once Dan Carter and his team were finished, we all got ready to see the Lilywhites take on Spartans! We started strongly and Keith McLeod could have opened the scoring early on. He raced away down the right wing, spotted Stobie off his line and tried to lift the ball over him. Stobie reacted well though and got back to knock the ball wide. Cloudie had another chance a few minutes later when he linked up well with Robbie Manson on the edge of the box, however his shot was just wide. At the other end Danny O’Donnell put in a last ditch tackle to prevent Dougie Gair racing free while Ross Guthrie fired high and wide when he looked certain to score. We eventually did open the scoring in the 55th minute when Ally MacKinnon added to his tally for the season, heading home a Chris Anderson corner. We doubled the lead in the 68th minute. Keith McLeod brilliantly controlled a Danny O’Donnell long ball, but saw his strike hit the post. Chris Anderson reacted quickest though and raced onto the rebound and placed it into the net. Spartan legend Donal Henretty reached the major milestone of his 350th game for Spartans when he replaced Willie Bremner late in the game. Malt & Hops Man of the Match: Danny O’Donnell – a great hard working performance from Danny. From preventing goals at one end to helping set them up at the other it was a great performance. Team: Flockhart, O’Donnell, Cennerrazzzo, MacCuish, MacKinnon, Manson, Martin (Beesley), Whatley, Anderson, McLeod, Bremner(Henretty) Unused: Sivewright, Grant, Gilpin |
