Win over Uni sees us into Third Round

Posted on Saturday, October 27th, 2012

Edinburgh City await us in the third round of the South Challenge Cup, following a 2-1 victory over Edinburgh University today at Ainslie Park.

We opened the scoring after just 5 minutes when Chris Anderson played a lovely through ball to Andy Martin who beat the offside trap and tapped the ball home.

Edinburgh Uni deservedly brought themselves level in the 18th minute when Cyrus Moosavi’s cross was headed home by Michael Gray.

We were back in front in the 51st minute when Jack Beesley played a neat ball to Chris Anderson who had plenty time to pick his spot in the far corner.

Gary Cenerrazzo nearly extended the lead when his shot was spilled by Mark Tait. The Uni keeper was relieved to see the ball hit the post and he was able to collect it at the 2nd attempt.

Andy Martin, Willie Bremner and Chris Anderson all had chances to score however we weren’t able to make the most of our chances, ensuring it was a tense few minutes before the full time whistle.

We held on though for a good victory, continuing our good form and will meet Edinburgh City at Meadowbank in the 3rd round.

Malt & Hops Man of the Match: Mark Whatley – an excellent hard working performance, Mark was involved in everything today. His break up play stopped the Uni on numerous occasions while his passing and hard work helped create a number of chances for us.
