Seniors cruise past Kelso but Amateurs lose heavily

The Seniors progressed to the 3rd round of the Image Printers cup with a 3-0 victory over Kelso United today.

We named the same starting line up as last Saturday and were immediately on top. Keith McLeod and Andy Martin both hit the bar in a one sided first half before Willie Bremner opened the scoring in the 39th minute when he latched onto a defense splitting pass from Gary Cennerrazzo and slotted home.

In the second half Kelso continued with their 4 5 1 formation but as we began to be frustrated they came slowly into the game and Chris Flockhart had to look very lively to block an effort from Webb. We put the game beyond doubt when Willie made it 2-0 in the 68th minute when his low shot wasn’t held by the Kelso keeper and the ball rolled into the net.

As the game went on Kelso United started to push forward however Jack Beesley made the most of the extra space in behind the Kelso defenders to race free and, just as he was about to strike for goal, he was tripped inside the box. The referee pointed to the spot and Keith McLeod stepped up to fire home from the penalty spot.

We had played well in the first half however became ragged in the second as Kelso defended well. It was our third consecutive clean sheet at home in a game Kelso’s defence played very well.
Malt & Hops Man of the Match: Chris Anderson – Chris was a pain to the Kelso defense all afternoon. His control, vision and touch at time was marvellous and showed exactly what he is capable of. Willie’s two goals pushed Chris close as did Mark Whatley who kept possession well all 90 minutes.

Our Amateurs lost 7 – 0 to Sandy’s in league action in an afternoon to forget.
