Wins for the Seniors and Juniors while the Amateurs draw in Scottish Cup.
The Seniors were missing Willie Bremner, John Grant, Sean Wringe and Neil McCuish however it was still a strong starting line up which took on Lothian Thistle who have made a great start to he season. With Scottish Cup action all round it was our lowest crowd for many years which settled down to watch the action.
There was little goalmouth action early in the game before Mark Whatley had the first big chance from 12 yards however his blasted effort cleared the bar, the fence behind the goal and almost the large tree in the garden behind the fence. The only goal of the game came just before half time. Jack Beesley’s driven corner was flicked on by Ali McKinnon and it fell to Keith McLeod ten yards out who took a touch before driving it home with his left foot. Lothian did hit the bar just half time when an effort bounced in front of Ross Gilpin and hit the bar before heading over. The wind was making it tricky for both team however we created the better chances in the second half. Keith had a cheeky effort from 45 yards when he spotted the GK off his line but the ball drifted wide. The Lothian ‘keeper then did well to block Mark as he moved onto a Donal Henretty flick. Lothian had plenty of the ball but apart from a couple of dangerous low crosses we defended well and limited em to speculative efforts from outside the box. Keith and Andy Martin the had chances to put the game beyond doubt but in the end we had to settle for a 1 – 0 win.
Mark Whatley picked up the Malt and Hops man of the match for some great passing and always being willing to support the strikers.
Team: Gilpin, O’Donnell, Cannazzero, Sivewright, McKinnon, Martin, Henretty, McLeod (Anderson 76), Manson, Beesley (Mair 87), Whatley Subs not used Finnie, Laird, Flockhart
The Juniors were 4 – 1 up with ten minutes to go when we relaxed and let Stoneyburn back into the game and although they came back to 4 – 3 we held on. Our goals came from Connor Armstrong, Chris Millican and Davy Stewart 2.
The Amateurs didn’t play well and found ourselves two down wit ten minutes to go against Dunalba but we fought back for a 2 – 2 draw with goals from Andy Hornell and Steven Enwood.
