King Kader!

Posted on Saturday, March 24th, 2012

Omar Kader celebrated his 250th appearance in style as we continued our push to retain the East of Scotland Premier Division with a 1-0 victory over Edinburgh City at a very foggy Ainslie Park.

Donal Henretty had the ball in the net in the first minute however he was harshly judged to have fouled City defender Shaun Harrison. Neither side created many clear chances in an event first half which saw Edinburgh City lose two players to injury.

The second half was a much better event. Omar Kader, captain for the day, made it a day to remember when he put the us ahead on the 48th minute. Picking the ball up in midfield he rounded two defenders to get into the box. City keeper Andrew Stobie got a lot of contact on Omar’s shot however it had enough momentum to take it over the line.

City started to push forward in search of an equaliser which allowed us the chance to hit on the counter attack. Stobie made several great saves from MacKinnon, Finnie and Wringe to keep City in the game and Kader could have made his day even better when he beat the offside track and raced clear. It wasn’t to be however and his 30 yard chip over the keeper came crashing off the bar and bounced to safety.

Malt & Hops Man of the Match: Captain for the day, 250th Spartans appearance, the winning goal and a well deserved man of the match award. Long live King Kader! Special mentions also for Robbie Manson, Chris Anderson and Dean Hoskins who all ran him close.

Team: Flockhart, O’Donnell, Hoskins, Sivewright, MacKinnon, Malin (Beesley), Kader, Manson, Anderson (Finnie), Grant, Henretty (Wringe) Unused: Donnelly, McTurk
