Management thoughts on our game v Stirling University.Mike says –“Part relief and part pride is how I feel this morning. Relief that it wasn’t two defeats in a row going into the most important time as far as retaining our league title is concerned. Confidence is a big factor in football and ours took a dunt against the Edinburgh students last week. With a huge game against Gretna next Saturday there is relief that we managed to come out on top yesterday against as good an East of Scotland side as I’ve seen in years. The pride part comes into play because of our performance especially in the second half. Stirling have a good balance, a great attitude and two or three exceptional players so we had to step up to the mark to show both our fighting and footballing qualities. The game could have gone either way and our visitors probably deserved extra-time at least but as it is we have a semi-final to look forward to. Dean Hoskins got the Man of The Match for his two goals but it could have gone to John Grant or Chris Anderson in central midfield or Donal Henretty up top. Having said that all our players played their part; they had to our we would have exited the League Cup. Gavin Malin took a sore one yesterday so with Kerr Dodds out and Danny O’Donnell unable to be be involved against Stirling our small squad is being stretched. Sam and I will check things out during the week and we may consider enhancing our squad for the run in from within the club. The smiles may be back on our faces but Gretna will be hurting after their result yesterday and having beaten us already this season they’ll travel up to Edinburgh confident they can come out on top again. Finally for now anyone who was spectating at the game yesterday will no doubt be trying to find out the date of our league game against Stirling Uni through there. With the quality displayed on both sides it’s bound to be a cracker (especially if there’s a league title at stake).” Mike |
