League Win for Seniors as Juniors Draw a Blank

Posted on Saturday, October 29th, 2011

Spartans faced Edinburgh City at Meadowbank today in the EoS Premier with Spartans sitting top of the table, unbeaten. There is a debate about whether or not Kerr Dodd’s opener was a cross or a shot. Whatever it was, it made the score 1-0 to the visitors after 31 minutes. Just before half time, Gavin Malin scored from 20 yards to make the score 2-0 to Spartans after a pass from Keith McLeod. McLeod added another to his remarkable scoring record for Spartans by making it 3-0 after 68 minutes. With less than ten minutes remaining, Kevin Sivewright handled the ball in his own box and Dougie Hair comfortable converted. Full Time – Edinburgh City 1-3 Spartans.

Meanwhile, the Juniors faced a strong Aberdeenshire side at the Academy in the biggest ‘non-league’ trophy in Scotland, the Emirates Junior Cup. Glentanar battled throughout the match in what proved to be an entertaining stale-mate with some confident counter-attacking football which tested the Spartans ‘keeper. The game will be replayed in Aberdeenshire next Saturday in what will be a tough test for Alex Cunningham’s Juniors. Full Time – Spartans Juniors 0-0 Glentanar
