Management thoughts on our trip to Bonnyrigg

“First of all this was only a bounce game and nothing too much should be read into the result. We were without Chris Anderson, Jack Beesley and Chris Smith and Bonnyrigg were probably without two or three of their players. Having said that we played well. We took about ten minutes to get a hold of the ball and had to defend a number of corners as the home side put us under a good deal of pressure from the kick-off. As we settled into the game we took control of the football and created a number of chances in the latter stages of the first half. Gavin took his goal well but several other better chances were missed and the worry for Sam and I at half-time was that the home side would step up their game in the second half and we would rue those misses.

As it turned out we got stronger as the game went out and it proved a really good workout for the lads. Jonathan Seeley was available yesterday but like Scott Fusco who’ll be suspended he’ll miss next week. Normally in friendlies we’d give everyone a run out but we haven’t had a clean sheet in a while and Sam and I decided to play it like a “real” game so only Jordan got on when Kerr’s hammy tightened up a bit.

Despite being away from home every week this season and being on the end of a couple of defeats Sam and I are happy with the squad and the way the team is shaping up. We have lost too many goals as a team and we will be working on that over the coming weeks. Let’s hope we get a competitive fixture next week as despite a good run out yesterday we all feel cheated at missing a Scottish Cup weekend.”
