Seniors secure the points in 5 goal thrillerThe Seniors had to fight back from going down by a goal very early in the game and survive the last 20 minutes with 10 men to secure a vital victory over Leith Athletic this evening. With just three minutes on the clock Leith broke the deadlock, making an excellent start to the game. In what was an action packed first half Omar Kader brough us back level after 20 minutes. Just a few moments after drawing level Chris Anderson scored his 2nd goal in 2 games, this one coming from the penalty spot. Jack Beesley then made the most of a lucky break to dink the ball home to extend our lead and help secure a convincing 3-1 half time advantage. Leith however had other things in mind and so far this season it seems that if you want to see goals then Leith games are the place to see them. They started the second half exactly as they did the first and pulled a goal back right at the start of play. While there wasn’t to be any more goals the action was far from over and the Leith keeper had a very busy evening. Our task was certainly made tougher when Rees Smith was sent off following his second yellow of the evening in 70 minutes however the game was to end 10 a-side as Leith also had a man sent off with ten minutes left. The result leaves us in third place in our group, two points behind Craigroyston who we play on Saturday. Vale of Leithen are also just 3 points behind us and have a game in hand as well as an impressive goal difference following their 6-0 victory over Kelso yesterday. One thing for sure is that it is going to be tight at the top! Team: Flockhart, Fusco, R Smith, McKinnon, Sivewright, Kader, Dodds, Manson, Beesley, Henretty (Bannon), Anderson |
