Management thoughts on our 2-2 draw with The Vale.

“This was a game we should have won but in the end could have lost. Sam and I were obviously very happy with the first half performance and although the second half was more even the whole game changed on one decision.  It gave the home side a massive lift but we should have reacted better as a team. Although pre-season has gone well we were short on numbers yesterday and one or two who played are a little behind in the fitness stakes. Having said that one of them, Dr Seeley had a great game beside Ali McKinnon despite long hours on the A&E ward and his honeymoon disrupting his pre-season.

Adversity should be a spur to step up our game and that was the only disappointment over the 90 minutes. We were collectively stunned by the penalty and we should have reacted better. The equaliser was unfortunate and in the end of the day Chris Flockhart kept our away record in tact with a great save at the death. The Vale are a very good side and got stronger as the game went on. Like us they were short of players and I’d expect Robbie and his boys to have a very good season.

It’s never good to lose a 2 goal lead but there were a lot of positives for Sam and myself. 5 players made their competitive debuts for the team (6 when Rees went on) and we were pleased with them all. Being away from home in all our League Cup Section fixtures it’s going to be hard for us to progress to the knockout stages but that is our aim. It’s still all to play for and weather permitting we’ll be raring to go at Kelso on Tuesday.”
