Young Junior side unlucky to lose

The Juniors were unlucky to lose 1-0 away to Superleague Bonnyrigg Rose last night in our first league cup game.

The Strong Bonnyrigg side included former Spartans Ross Archibald and Alex King, both making their debuts for their new sides.

After surviving an early Rose assault Spartans got into the game and competed well. In fact we might have had a penalty when zaveroni was brought down inside the box. The sane player then put in a great delivery which just eluded the toes of both perry and wringe.

2nd half Spartans again performed well, Perry having a shot cleared off the line – however we lost a soft goal after 68 mins. This seemed to spur us on and we started to take the game to the hosts, forcing a number of corners late in the game.

With Alex in Germany Kenny said: “Andy and I were pleased with the attitude, fitness levels and performance of the team, if not the result. However I felt we got better and better as the game went on and that there was a number of positives to take from the game. When you look at the number of young players involved in a game like this in front if over 200 people you have to be positive for the future. Now we turn our attention to Saturday were we will look to build on tonight and take the points.”

Team: Jackson, Fraser, Stewart, Thompson, Cruikshank, Hunter, Zaveroni, Millegan, Wringe, Elliott, Perry. Subs: Laidlaw, Boyce, trialist, Roberts, Reid, Halliday, Cunningham.
