Management thoughts on our visit to The Vale

“Like every other manager, coach and player in East of Scotland football we are delighted to be back playing competitive football this weekend. Had we the exact same set of players at the club as last time round Sam and I would be concerned about their attitude to the coming season. Having won everything domestic would they have the same desire? Well, players moving on, new players moving in, weddings, operations, injuries and visits to China make sure the team who take to the pitch on Saturday bears little resemblance to that which played at The Vale in May.

Chris Townsley, Ross Archibald and Alex King have moved on. Danny O’Donnell had an operation to his foot yesterday, Keith McLeod goes in for his hernia op next week, Gavin Malin is in China while Omar Kader and Kevin Sivewright are unavailable for selection. That’s 8 first team regulars from last season so as I’ve said it’s all change this weekend.

Sam and I will give all our signed players at least one start over the period of the League Cup section and Saturday’s game against The Vale looks the hardest fixture of the 5. Robbie has his team playing in the right manner and Jimmy Murray and myself were more than impressed by their performance against a Hibs 11 on Tuesday. Like us they have 1 or 2 players missing but whoever they put out our boys will know they’ve been in a game.

At least 5 players will make their first competitive start for Spartans Senior side which makes it exciting times for all involved with the club. As I say at the top Saturday can’t come quick enough as we get back down to the serious stuff  and Sam and I hope you are looking forward to the season as much as we are.”
