‘King’ Kader helps retain cupOmar Kader scored two fantastic goals, one in each half, to ensure we retained the King cup with a 2-1 victory over Stirling University at the Falkirk Stadium. The game was an even affair and with both teams given limited time on the ball, few clear chances were created. Stirling Uni had the first shot on target however it was straight at Chris Flockhart who easily held the ball. In the 35th minute we took the lead. Gavin Malin did well in midfield as he charged forward. He played an inch perfect pass for Omar to cooly lift the ball over the Stirling Uni keeper and into the net. Into the second half and once again it was a fairly even affair. Both teams had half chances however neither side really threatened the goal mouth. With just five minutes left a Dean Hoskins freekick was headed down on the edge of the box by Chris Townsley. The ball landed right in the path of Omar whose wonderful half volley rocketed beyond the Uni keeper and into the goal. Just as the result seemed to be secure, the Uni pulled a goal back when right back McCulloch headed home a freekick to set up a nearvous end to the game. Deep into injury time the Uni were given a freekick in the same position from which they had scored just minutes earlier. Once again the freekick found a Uni head in the box however this time Chris Flockhart pulled off a great reaction save before the ball was cleared to safety. The full time whistle was met with cheers from the Spartan faithful as we secured our 4th trophy of the season. Malt and Hops Man of the Match: Omar Kader, two fantastic finishes, the second and absolute belter! He also caused the Uni defence problems throughout the game. Team: Flockhart, O’Donnell, Hoskins, Townsley, Sivewright, Malin, Kader, Manson, Archibald, Henretty, Beelsey (Smith) |
