Seniors win but Juniors go down

Posted on Saturday, May 7th, 2011

The Seniors beat Heriot Watt Uni 5 – 0 today but the Juniors went down 2 – 1 to Suachie.
The Seniors took only 6 minutes to take the lead. Keitrh McLeod wa fouled by the Watt ‘keeper as he went for a through ball. A soft decision but Gavin Malin didn’t argue and smashed the kick home. The second came 15 minutes later, some Jack Beesley trickery giving Ross Archibald a tap in from 6 yards. The Uni were struggling to hold possession and just before the break a Dean Hoskins craoff was lifted into the net by Ross for his second.
The fourth came midway through the second half when Chris Townsley headed in a Dean Hoskins corner. Ross’s hatrick came with 15 minutes to go after some good work by Jordan Finnie in the inside right channel. Ross won the Malt and Hops man of the match for his hat trick in a game which sets us up for the League Cup quarter final against Heriot Watt on Tuesday night. Team: Flockhart, O’Donnell, Hoskins, Townsley, Sivewright, Manson, Malin (Sinclair 73), Beesley (Finnie 73), McLeod (Henretty 45), Kader, Archibald Subs not used: Smith, McGarrie
The Juniors went 2 – 0 in the first 30 minutes to likely league champions Sauchie with our ‘keeper Dawid Paterek doing well to keep the score down. We dug in and by half time had a foothols back in the game. The second half was quite even, then with ten minutes to go we pulled on eback. A through ball from Adam Perry seemed to be beyond Ress Smith but a tug by the Sauchie right back was spotted by the referee. Paul Roberts drove the ball home from the spot and Sauchie were down to 10 men. We had a couple of chances but didn’t trouble the Sauchie ‘keeper, especially when Rees and Andrew Cruickshank managed to tie each other in knots when we got a free kick at the edge of the Sauchie box. Team: Paterek, Hair, Waddell, Cran, Cruickshank, Reid, Shave (Roberts 45), Perry, Bannon, Smith, Nikolaudies Subs not used: Vietch, Cameron, Ewart
Tomorrow the Womens team head to Inverness on league duty, the EoS 19s take on Craigroyston at the Academy with a 2pm ko where we need to win by 3 goals to reach the final of the Challenge Cup and the Sunday Amateurs take on Boca Juniors in a league game at City Park.
