Management thoughts on a hard fought victory.

Mike says –

“Let’s face it we were lucky to reach half-time at 0-0. Edinburgh Uni bossed the first half, they had more of the ball and we were fortunate that we defended as well as we did. For 45 minutes we showed very little going forward, gave away possession and were second best all over the park. We were happy to get them into the home dressing room all square.

During the interval Sam and I spoke about trying to squeeze the game further up the park, making a better effort at retaining possession and to show more belief. On the board Mike suggested ways of finding space to pass the ball in the wider areas and just before the players went back out I told them that the Uni had played as well as they could but we could play a lot better.  In the second half we did and despite the Uni going ahead we passed the ball better, got a foothold further up the park and finally started playing.

Edinburgh Uni are a very good side and we needed to eventually play at our very best to beat them. The pitch was hard and the ball difficult to control for both sets of players but those at the game saw 3 really good goals and a very competitive game of football. We are now in the King Cup Final against another very good student side but for now our thoughts turn to the City Cup Final on Tuesday and our trip to Berwick.”
