Match tied at Thistle

Posted on Tuesday, March 22nd, 2011

The Seniors drew 1-1 with Lothian Thistle tonight in a frustrating game at the Saughton Enclosure. The very poor pitch meant that neither team were able to play football instead having to resort to long ball football at times where both would normally look to nice flowing passes.

Chris Townsley opened the scoring after just 6 minutes when he fired home a shot after Kevin Swain, in the Lothian goal had punched clear a corner.

In a game of limited chances neither side were able to create much in the way of clear scoring opportunities.

We were given a penalty in the second half when Alex King’s strike was handled in the box by Conan McDiarmid. Cloudie stepped up but his strike was poor and Swain easily stopped the shot going in.

With the game looking like ending 1-0, Lothian were given a freekick deep into injury time on the edge of the box. The cross was cleared by the defence however a Lothian midfielder fired the ball into the net from 18 yards. It turn out to be the last kick of the ball and the game ended in a draw.

Malt & Hops Man of the Match: Chris Townsley for a hard working performance in defence and attack. Nobody covered more ground and he scored a cracking goal too.

Team: Flockhart, O’Donnell, Hoskins, Townsley, Sivewright, Malin (Henretty), King, Manson, Archibald, McLeod, Beesley (Etale) to Fowlie, Smith, Seeley
