Management thoughts on a not quite blank Saturday.Mike says –“Sam and I had a big decision to make once we knew our game at Saughton Enclosure was officially off yesterday. On the one hand we’ve had a couple of mid-week games meaning we have a few tired players carrying knocks who could do with the day off. On the other hand the likes of Danny and David haven’t seen a football for a good few weeks and Stewart, Craig the Goalie and Jordan would also benefit from some ball time. We had just enough players to field a side and so we had a bounce game with our Junior side. Danny and Stewart got 90 minutes, David got sixty while Craig and Jordan got the last half hour. We gave Towner, Robbie, Wee Eck and Cloudie the day off while Doctor Jono, Chris Smith and Scott Livingstone were unavailable. The Juniors thoroughly deserved to win 4-2. Like us they were one or two short and had a few amateurs in their squad. The result will give their fledgling management team a shot in the arm and the players who decided to stay at the club a lift. I hope their season goes from strength to strength. We didn’t play well as a team and individually only one or two got pass marks. In normal circumstances I’d have lost it after the game but decided to keep my powder dry. Respect and mental preparation for games are high on the list of things I try to drum into the players and I’ll use yesterday to my advantage in the future. We now wait to see if the Academy park turns from an Olympic swimming pool to a football pitch before Tuesday and Whitehill. More of that later.” Mike |
