Management thoughts on our King Cup victory.

“Last night it was missions accomplished. We wanted to progress to the next round of the King Cup and we did that. We wanted two or three players who haven’t been getting game time for various reasons to start or at least get on and we did that. We wanted to rest one or two due to knocks, ailments and the heavy schedule we are in the middle of and we did that. Three boxes – three ticks.

Once Gavin scored his first on 20 minutes to put us 2 up the game was very much in our control. Ormiston gave it their best on a terrible night but we never let our grip on the game go over the 90 minutes and that was the most pleasing aspect. Although we only scored 1 after the break we kept a good tempo up and were always on the front foot.  Paul Cadger in the Ormiston goal was a very busy man and had a good evening keeping the score respectable. For our part the lessons of Glasgow Uni and Preston may just have been learned.

Big Craig did well in goal; it was great to see Stewart back along with Doctor Seeley in our defensive starting line-up and Smudger (we’ve got 2 Chris’s this season) showed a lot of energy, pace and skill on the right hand side of our attack. David and Danny got a run out as well which meant there was no place for young Jordan Finnie on the bench.  Young Jordan is only 17 and Sam and I will pick and choose his games although he already looks the real deal at our level.

With everyone fit and available Sam and I will hopefully get 2 or 3 some game time in the Junior team if that can be arranged. Other than the Scottish Cup (which we were never going to win) we still have all to play for and we’ll need each and every player if we are to continue on all fronts.”

I gave Barca v Arsenal a miss on Tuesday to watch our next opponents Lothian beat the Vale. More of that and our league game at Saughton Enclosure this weekend, tomorrow.”
