Seniors Cement Top Position After Great First Half Performance

Posted on Saturday, March 5th, 2011

Spartans Seniors defeated Preston 4-1 at Ainslie Park today in a game that was pretty much finished at half time. Jack Beesley scored with in seconds as he broke free from his marker and slotted the ball home to make it 1-0. Then Alex King broke free for a two-on-one with the ‘keeper and very unselfishly played it to his left for Keith McLeod to add another to his tally for the season after 22 mins. Alex King was then rewarded for some excellent play with a goal of his own- Spartans were 3-0 up and cruising. Ross Archibald finished the game at the end of the first half with a goal, the right back now has 10 for the season. To their credit, Preston did manage to pull back a goal however Spartans’ champions performance saw them comfortably win the three points.

It was also great to see Dave Etale back in Edinburgh after a month away with the army doing jungle training. He looked knackered but I’m sure he will be back training with the squad soon!

The Juniors beat Pumpherston 4-0 away, Nick Reid scored two while Andy Laidlaw and AndyCruickshank also found the net.
