New Junior management keep up 100% recordThe Juniors progressed to the third round of the Fife and Lothians cup with a strong 3-1 victory over Newburgh at Ainslie Park today.Alec Cunningham took charge of the team with Davey Bryce being away and started with the same eleven as last week. It took only 44 seconds for the team to get going as Paul Roberts fired us in front with our first attack. We had several chances to extend the lead with the Newburgh Keeper on fine form, making brilliant instinctive saves from Roberts and Rees Smith. Newburgh started to come into the game more as the half went on and were awarded a penalty in the 40th minute when new signing Mark Burns commited a foul in the box. Scot Bissett stepped up for the visitors and fired his kick into the bottom left corner to bring the score level. Into the second half and Sam Scott’s header in the 46th minute looked destined for the goal before the Newburgh Keeper managed to scramble accross and parry the ball wide. After we had several other chances, Nick Reid eventually put us back in front with a strike from 12 yards in the 58th minute. Second half sub Adam Perry then completed the scoring with 8 minutes left on the clock with a well placed shot, his first goal since his recent return from Newtongrange Star. The Coaches man of the match was Rees Smith for an impressive performance on the left wing, with Sam Scott getting a special mention for yet another superb performance. We now go on to face Dalkeith on tuesday night at the Academy in the South District League and we hope the Spartan Army can come and support us then. Team: Paterek, Hair, McKibben (McCathie), Burns, Cruickshank, Scott, Laidlaw (Perry), Roberts, Cowan, Reid (Stewart), Smith. |
