Seniors and Juniors both win

The Seniors beat Gala Fairydean 4 – 2 in the first round of the King Cup while the Juniors beat Blackburn Utd 1 – 0 in a league game with Gary Bannon scoring with 15 minutes to go, a full report of that game will follow.

Some great work by Hutch, Andy N and Dave B on the stadium pitch in the torrential rain this morning enabled it to just scrape through a pitch inspection.
Gala struck in the first minute when an Anderson corner seemed to be flicked into the net by the hand of Paul Sutherland…he did acknowledge the “hand of God” later in the bar. It did spur us into action and by the 20th minute we were ahead. First the Gala a ‘keeper struggled with a pass back and Keith Mcleod tapped the ball into the net. Gavin Malin then scored from close range after Omar Kader’s shot was blocked. We continued to attack and on the half hour mark were awarded a penalty when Paulo tripped Keith. Paulo was booked for protesting as his good start to the day was deteriorating but ‘keeper Turnbull pulled off a great save. There were chances at both ends before the half time whistle blew. We came right out of the blocks in the second half and after several close shaves Ross Archibald netted from close range on the 50 minute mark. Gala were next to threaten when Young hit the post before the fourth came with 20 minutes to go. An Alex King free king deflecting into the net. There was time left for a Robbie Manson penalty to be saved by ‘keeper Turnbull. His weak shot being saved easily, perhaps Robbie’s last spot kick of the season. It was an exciting game and the score could easily have been 8 – 4, Alex King winning the Malt and Hops man of the match. Team: Flockhart, Archibald, Hoskins, Sivewright, Townsley, Beesley, Malin (Smith 76), Mcleod (Henretty 68), Kader (O’Donnell 68), King, Manson Subs not used: McGarrie, Livingston. The crowd was 150.
