Management thoughts on the postponement of the Selkirk game and the friendly against Forfar AthleticMike says –“I knew the call was coming this afternoon but it didn’t make me feel any better when Jim Murray phoned to say the Selkirk game had been called off. I’d been on the Academy pitch this morning and although flat it was bone hard with a good deal of ice in the changing room corner. Now back in my day we might have cleared the ice and played on the flat surface but it was dangerous then and the right decisions on frozen parks are made these days. We are desperate to get back to competitive action but I’m afraid we’ll have to wait until the new year before we kick a ball in earnest. Knowing there was a good chance of the Selkirk game being off and most of the SFL fixtures suffering a similar fate we pre-arranged a friendly with our old friend Dick Campbell and his Forfar side. That game kicks off at 1.00 on the Academy Field Turf and we’d be delighted to see a few familiar faces down to watch the action. Like everyone in the home dressing room Sam and I are sure those who usually come along to watch us are feeling as starved of football action as we are. David Etale is still out injured but other than that we should be able to give the rest of the squad some time on the park tomorrow. Keith McLeod goes in for a hernia operation on the 22nd which suits Cloudie’s work commitments and our festive shutdown. While at the keyboard I’d like to thank the players for an unbelievable year. The official game being off tomorrow means that we will go the whole of 2010 undefeated by an East of Scotland side. I’m not sure if that’s been done before but I’ve been around EOS football on and off since 1992 and I can’t remember a side completing a calendar year without a defeat . The boys are a credit to the club and a credit to themselves. We are all looking forward to the game tomorrow albeit a friendly.” Mike |
