Disappointing Saturday all round

Posted on Saturday, November 20th, 2010

Three defeats for the first time this season made it a bitterly disappointing day.

The Seniors team saw only one change from the last round of the cup with Stewart Fowlie in for Dean Hoskins.  It was a tentative start for both teams.  We were unable to get support up to Keith Mcleod and we were marshalling them well at the back.   Jack Beesley was causing havoc with some darting runs and whipped crosses.  Donal Henretty coming closest on the half hour mark when he headed over.  Just on the half time whistle Weaver gave Shire the lead with a top corner drive from just outside the box.

We reverted to 4 4 2 in the second half with Donal Henretty going up front.  We had a great early spell in the half with Alex King and Gavin Malin both coming close before a Gavin Malin cross was knocked home by Keith from close range.  We were in the descendancy but the ball wouldn’y quite bounce.  We then went behind in a daft two minutes with twenty minutes left.  Keith was booked for a late tackle  on the half way line and then Kevin Sivewright also saw yellow when he dragged back their striker from the free kick.  An expensive 60 seconds got worse when Dunn hit a superb free kick into the top corner.

We pushed on and had a couple of chances, firstly Keith headed wide and then an Alex King mazy ended up in three shots being blocked.  Their ‘keeper pulled off one final save with two minutes left from a deflected King effort.  the Malt and Hops MOM going to Alex King who simply didnt deserve to be on a losing team.  Gone are our Scottish Cup dreams for another season and like forfar last season they took their chances and we missed ours.

Team: Flockhart, Archibald, Fowlie (O’Donnell 79), Townsley, Sivewright, Malin, King, Manson, Beesley (Kader 75), McLeod, Henretty Subs not used: Sinclair, Finnie, McGarrie

The Juniors suffered a 7 – 2 defeat away to Sauchies with our injury hit squad stretched to the limit. Goals game from Rees Smith and Mark Cowan however despite going 1-0 up, losing Jo Steele after 5 minutes and Michael Moffat after 15 to injury saw a rather disjointed performance against the league leaders.

Our Amateurs went down 4 – 3 to Newcraighall Vics in the East of Scotland Cup.
