A win, a draw and a defeat

The Seniors drew 1 – 1 at home aginst Edinburgh City in the league, the Juniors beat Armadale 3 – 2 in the League Cup with a Nick Reid hat-trick while the Amateurs lost 2 – 1 in a league game.

The Seniors started poorly and lost a goal in six minutes when Meaney ran through a square defence to round Chris Flockhart and net.  Our chances were limited to long range efforts in the first half with Gavin Malin twice shooting over from just outside the box.  We upped the pace in the second half and it was no surprise when we equalised, a great shot and turn from Keith Mcleod after a Ross Archibald through ball.  We continued to dominate possession but struggled to break down some excellent City defending.  Omar Kader came closest with five to go when he flicked the ball over from three yards.  City were unlucky in the final minute when they broke away and scored only for the referee to call the play back for an infringement.  The Spartans man of the match was debutant Chris Townsley who won everything in the air in our box and theirs…we’ll soon work out how to capitalise on him always winning the first header at set pieces!

The Juniors stayed top of their League Cup section with a 3 – 2 win over a robust Armadale team.  Nick Reid scored a fantastic hat trick.  Like last Wednesday night we lost a two goal lead but this time came back with the winner.  We are one goal ahead of Linlithgow at the top of the section with the final games on Wednesday, us at home to Newtongrange Star, Rose at home to Armadale.  Team: Paterek, Cruickshank, Steele, McKibben, Bannon, Antoni (Boyes), Young, Shanks (Smith), Cowan, Reid, Roberts (Middlemass) Sub not used: Hair

The Amateurs scorer was Iain Cartwright in their 2 – 1 defeat against Broughton.
