Juniors lose narrowly to Musselburgh and Amateurs lose heavily

Posted on Monday, May 10th, 2010

The Juniors lost 2 – 1 to a late goal in tonight’s Fife and Lothians Cup quarter final.  The first half was even on possession although Musselburgh looked more dangerous in attack and took the lead in the 43rd minute when King slotted home after a fine save from David Paterek.  Spartans came out superbly in the second half and took the game to Musselburgh.  Kenny Young came close before Gary Bannon equalised after 70 minutes after a good move involving Kenny and Ollie Antoni.  It was looking like penalties as Musselburgh pushed forward in the last five minutes.  It took an 88th minute penalty when Gary Young brought down the Musselburgh striker and King stroke home the spot kick.  It was a disappointing outcome after a superb effort from us in the second half. Team: Paterek, Cruickshank, Steele (G Young 82), McKibben, Moffat, Scott, Antoni, Bannon, Preston, Reid (Perry 65), K Young Sub not used: Sutherland, Robertson, Boyes, Roberts, Cartwright

Also tonight the Amateurs tumbled 6 – 0 to Tollcross in the semi final of the Miller Cup.
